The Providence girls basketball team has had some good nights. Wednesday was not one of them.
Behind 14 points from Meena Baher and 12 from Deb Brittain, Cate won easily over the Patriots, 62-6. Cate led 38-0 at halftime. Providence then scored its only six points in the third quarter. Imani Oseso and Lily Zanze also had eight points apiece for the Rams, who remained undefeated in Frontier League play.
FILLMORE 47, CARPINTERIA 38
Hannia Hernandez had 23 points and Kaela Kelley added seven for the Warriors in a losing cause.
Carpinteria (3-9, 0-3 league) led 22-20 at halftime, but couldn’t hold on in the second half.
BOYS BASKETBALL
CATE 84, PROVIDENCE 16
Senior captain Khadim Pouye had 16 points to lead the Rams to a lopsided win over the Patriots in a Frontier League game.
Junior Nkemka threw down a thunderous dunk early in the first quarter for Cate, which led 35-5 after the first eight minutes and 51-12 at halftime. The Rams improved to 9-3 overall and 1-1 in the Frontier League.
BISHOP DIEGO 68, VILLANOVA PREP 29
Matthew Cunningham led all scorers with 24 points for the Cardinals in their one-sided victory over Villanova Prep.
Tyler Williams added 11 points and Connor Streett had nine points for Bishop Diego, which led 20-13 after the first quarter and ran away with a victory over the final three quarters.
GIRLS SOCCER
HUENEME 3, CARPINTERIA 0
Despite playing a player down due to a red card, the Vikings led 1-0 at halftime and netted two more goals in the second half for the win.
Carpinteria fell to 2-9-1 overall and 0-3 in the Citrus Coast League.
MEN’S BASKETBALL
CUESTA 80, SBCC 53
The Cougars finished 13 of 39 from 3-point range to rout the Vaqueros. Adrian Juilland-Johnson led SBCC with 18 points in 28 minutes off the bench.
Carlos Arevalo also had 13 for the Vaqueros, who dropped to 1-16 overall and 0-3 in the Western State Conference North.
