Behind a 20-point, 10-rebound effort by senior center Bryce Warrecker, the Santa Barbara High boys basketball team clobbered Santa Ynez, 58-23, on Tuesday night in the Channel League opener for both teams in Santa Ynez.
The Dons went on a 15-4 run late in the second quarter to secure a 29-18 lead at the break. Stephen Davis also had a solid game for Santa Barbara with 10 points. Moki Nacario had nine points, Dylan Borgeson finished with eight and Jackson Gonzalez had six points and five steals for the Dons.
BOYS BASKETBALL
SAN MARCOS 72, LOMPOC 49
Tony Njia led all scorers with 24 points for the Royals in their Channel League-opening win. John Connolly, Jeroe Bidlow and Max Sheldon had eight points apiece, while Will pace added seven for San Marcos.
CABRILLO 48, DOS PUEBLOS 42 (OT)
Baylor Huyck had a team-high 18 points and Joaquin Riker added 13 for the Chargers, but it wasn’t enough in an overtime loss at Cabrillo.
The Conquistadores were led by Hayden Jory, who had a game-high 22 points, and Reggie Orr, who added 13. The loss dropped DP to 4-12 overall and 0-1 in Channel League.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
DOS PUEBLOS 45, CABRILLO 37
Ashley Gerkens had 14 points and Lily Mires finished with nine points and eight rebounds to lead the Chargers to a win in the Channel League opener for both teams.
Mikayla Butzke, Ava Sommer and Olivia Roark also had strong games for DP, which improved to 11-4 overall. Andrea Guevara contributed four points and pulled down three rebounds for the Chargers.
Dos Pueblos coach Phil Sherman praised Mires rebounding in the fourth quarter that helped seal the win.
BISHOP DIEGO 33, LA REINA 28
Julia De La Cruz played the entire game and finished with a game-high 18 points to lead the Cardinals to victory in their Frontier League opener.
Mileyni Sanchez also contributed seven points — all in the second half — for Bishop Diego, which trailed 16-8 at halftime. Sanchez and De La Cruz also combined to make five 3-pointers, with three coming from De La Cruz.
The Cardinals improved to 13-5 overall.
LOMPOC 52, SAN MARCOS 45
Ashley Day led San Marcos with 18 points in a game that turned in the Braves’ favor in the fourth quarter.
The Royals trailed 34-32 after three before Lompoc outscored San Marcos by five in the fourth. The Braves secured their Channel League-opening win by going 6-for-6 at the free-throw line down the stretch.

SANTA YNEZ 2, DOS PUEBLOS 0
Despite a few quality scoring chances, the Chargers were unable to find the back of the net in their Channel League opener.
The Pirates scored their first goal three minutes into the second half, and added their second in the 60th minute. DP’s Hayed Carlson scored what looked like a goal, but it was disallowed by the referee after an apparent offside. Dos Pueblos dropped to 8-3-2 overall and 0-1 in the Channel League.

The Chargers fell to 3-3-2 overall and 0-1 in the Channel League with their road loss at Santa Ynez.
DP hosts Cabrillo in a league match on Thursday.

CARPINTERIA 21, HUENEME 3
Alex Zapata exploded for six goals and four assists to lead the Warriors to a lopsided win over the Vikings.
Briana Rodriguez also contributed five goals, including three in the first quarter, for Carpinteria (4-2, 2-0 Citrus Coast League).
