At one point in the third quarter of Friday night’s Frontier League boys basketball game, host Laguna Blanca found itself trailing Thacher by 26 points.
A furious second-half rally by the Owls got them within three points late, but came up short in the Toads’ 69-66 victory.
Devin Hernandez had 27 points, four rebounds and three blocks for the Owls, while Christian Branch hit six 3-pointers as part of his 20-point effort in the loss.
Laguna Blanca returns home on Wednesday for a 5 p.m. Frontier League tipoff against Cate.

Ethan Ng had a game-high 25 points — 20 of which he scored in the second half — to led the Rams to a Frontier win over the Wildcats.
Khadim Pouye added 10 points in teh win for Cate (9-2, 4-1), while Nkemka Chukwumerije had four points, four assists, three steals, five rebounds and three blocks.
Slade Lowe led Villanova Prep (8-10, 4-1) with 13 points.
BISHOP DIEGO 64, PROVIDENCE 40
A 10-0 third-quarter run gave the Cardinals a Tri-Valley League win over the Patriots.
Kai Morphy led Bishop Diego with 17 points, also helping on the defensive end; Matthew Cunningham added 16 points in the win for the Cardinals.
Bennett Van Donge led Providence with 16 points.
NORDHOFF 52, CARPINTERIA 46
A fourth-quarter stumble defensively saw the Warriors drop a league game to the Rangers.

Seven different Rams players scored goals, led by two each from Grace Blankenhorn and Cahrlotte Weis, in a rain-delayed Frontier League win over the Wildcats in Ojai.
Tali Nam, Lilly Riehl, Charlotte Weis, Kate Tunnell, Ali Istanbullo, and Emely Villatoro all scored goals for Cate (5-2-1, 4-0), with Riel, Nam, Tunnell and Blankenhorn each recording at least one assist; Jolea Moes had three assists in the win.

ORANGE LUTHERAN 9, DOS PUEBLOS 8
Abbi Hill had five goals and three bocks for the Chargers in a non-league loss to the Orange County-based Lancers, in a game played at Canyon High in Anaheim.
Sophie Leggett added two goals, two assists and four steals in the loss for Dos Pueblos (13-7), which travels south to face San Clemente today at 10 a.m.
UCSB 3, BALL STATE 2
Corey Chavers had a team-high 21 kills to lead the Gauchos to a 22-25, 25-18, 25-15, 15-25, 15-13 road victory over the Cardinals in Muncie, Ind.
Haotian Xia added 18 kills in the victory for UCSB (4-3), while Ryan Wilcox had seven kills; Casey McGarry dished out 46 assists.
Ball State’s Kaleb Jenness led all attackers with 22 kills, while David Siebum added 14 kills.
UCSB heads to Purdue-Fort Wayne for a 4 p.m. match today.
