San Marcos defeated Bishop Diego in a Green Division game of the Santa Barbara Tournament of Champions on Friday night at San Marcos High.
Lily Poehler led the Royals with nine points, while the Cardinals were led by Mileyni Sanchez, who finished with 11.
“We were struggling shooting consistently against their zone all night, but we were able to scrap out a win against a very improved Bishop team,” San Marcos assistant coach Aaron Solis said. “Alyssa Hernandez and Kiani Rojas did a good job containing their point guard and disrupting their offense. Piper Nielsen came off the bench and gave us a good pickup in the third quarter. Michelle Arellanes hit a long two and a 3-pointer in the fourth to help us pull away.”
San Marcos improved to 10-2 while Bishop Diego fell to 10-3.
