One Western State Conference men’s golf tournament was on the books after Monday’s action at the Bakersfield Country Club, and with it came one SBCC victory.
The Vaqueros used consistent rounds from all five of its scoring players to post a team score of 386 strokes, 14 better than defending conference champ Canyons.
Canyons took the top two spots in the individual standings, with a 74 from Nobuhiko Wakaaki and a 75 from Jules Laingen.
But SBCC took the next four spots on the scoresheet, with Theo Andre-Fouet and Brent Caraher tying for third at 76, and Brant Schenk and Skyler Booth tied for fifth with Canyons’ Anguerrand Voisin and Glendale’s Schott Schuster at 77.

SAN MARCOS 3, PARACLETE 1
The Royals opened their season with a home victory over the Lancaster-based Spirits, in an SCI Tournament game re-scheduled from Saturday due to rain.
Brent Heiman earned the win for San Marcos, allowing one run on three hits over four innings, striking out six and walking two.
The Royals got a run-scoring groundout from Jack Winterbauer in the first inning. It was followed with two runs in the fourth, on aan RBI single by Jacob Galindo, followed by a Joaquin Sandoval sacrifice fly.

The Chargers and the Woodland Hills-based Conquistadores opened Easton Tournament play with a tie that was called due to darkness after 10 innings of play.
Connor Gleisnner made his first varsity start count for Dos Pueblos, allowing one run on one hit over 41/3 innings, strking out one. Reliever Mason Boelter threw 52/3 scoreless innings, striking out three.
Nico Martinez had a sixth-inning single to drive in the Chargers’ lone run.
