
Despite having four players in double-figure scoring, the UCSB women’s basketball team dropped its Big West Conference road game at UC Riverside, 66-61, on Saturday night.
Senior guard Coco Miller led the way for the Gauchos with 16 points on 6 of 12 shooting and freshman center Ila Lane had 15 points and nine rebounds.
Point guard Danae Miller and senior shooting guard Tal Sahar had 14 and 10 points, respectively. UCSB shot 36% (21-for-59) from the field and 22% (4 of 18) from 3-point range.
The Gauchos (7-10, 2-2 Big West Conference) also didn’t do themselves any favors at the free-throw line, finishing 15 of 24 (62.5%).
UC Riverside (6-11, 2-1 Big West) was led by Keilanei Cooper, who had 23 points on 8 of 13 shooting and 2-for-5 from the 3-point line. Marina Ewodo also had 17 points and Jannon Otto finished with 14 for the Highlanders. Riverside finished 26 of 57 (45.6%) from the field.
UCSB outscored UCR by seven in the second half, but the Gauchos dug themselves too big of a deficit in the first half, as they trailed by 12 at the break.
WOMEN’S WATER POLO
UCSB 12, IONA 4

Caitlyn Snyder had three goals in the first nine minutes and the No. 11 Gauchos finished with 12 goals on 31 shots to defeat Iona in the first game on Saturday of the UCSB Winter Invitational Tournament at Campus Pool. Sarah Snyder and Sarah Owens had two goals apiece for UCSB, and goalie Becca Buck finished with seven saves.
Things didn’t go quite as well for the Gauchos against No. 4 Cal in Saturday’s second game. Despite leading after both of the first two quarters, UCSB went scoreless in the second half in a three-goal loss to the Golden Bears. Local products Grace Raisin and Sophie Leggett each scored for Cal in the first half, and Leggett added two more goals in the second half.
California outscored UCSB, 4-0, in the second half.
BOYS BASKETBALL
PASADENA 57, SANTA BARBARA 45
Senior center Bryce Warrecker had 20 points and senior point guard Stephen Davis had 10 for the Dons in a losing cause.
After trailing by 10 points in the first quarter, Santa Barbara stormed back to take a 21-20 lead in the second quarter before falling behind, 31-23, at halftime. The Dons (13-7) return to Channel League play on Wednesday at Dos Pueblos.
GIRLS WATER POLO
ORANGE LUTHERAN 12, DOS PUEBLOS 6
Shannon Connolly had three goals and earned five ejections for the Chargers in their non-league loss to Orange Lutheran. Bella Godlis had two goals, two assists and two steals for DP, while goalie Emma Gilbert made five saves.
The Chargers (7-10, 1-0 Channel League) host Santa Barbara on Tuesday at 5 p.m.

The Owls fell to 2-1-1 in league and 3-5-1 overall with their loss to the Saints.
