Alexis White scored in the 100th minute to lead the Cal State Northridge women’s soccer team to a 1-0 win over UCSB on Thursday night in the semifinals of the Big West Conference Tournament in Fullerton.
Although the Gauchos dominated, offensively, for most of the match, they were unable to find the back of the net in what turned out to be their season-ending match. UCSB (8-5-6) outshot CSUN (12-6-3) by an 18-11 margin, and had a number of quality chances to score.
White made the most of her chance at the end of the first 10-minute overtime period when she took a pass from Ashley Cruz and delivered a shot past Gaucho freshman goalkeeper Evann Smith to give the Matadors a golden-goal victory.
Smith played her third straight match in place of starter Hanna DeWeese, whose collegiate career came to a premature end with a hand injury. Smith was outstanding against Northridge, finishing with a career-high seven saves, including one on a penalty shot. CSUN goalkeeper Amanda Delgado finished with eight saves.
It was only UCSB’s second loss in its last 10 matches, with both coming to Northridge. The setback also marked the end of the brilliant season of UCSB senior forward Shaelan Murison. On Wednesday, Murison was named the Big West Conference Offensive Player of the Year after scoring 17 goals.
She had nine shots —- half of the Gauchos’ total —- on Thursday night, with four on frame.

Torres shot 11 for 15 from the field and collected a double-double with 25 points and 13 rebounds. She tacked on a pair of assists and steals.
Jimenez finished the night with a team-high 26 points on 11 of 21 shooting, including 4 for 7 from three-point range.
San Diego City (1-3) got 34 points from Aliyah Milner on 13 of 22 shooting from the field.
The Vaqueros held a slim-four point advantage at the break at 43-39 but then the Knights stormed the court hard in the third quarter outscoring the home team 21-11.
SBCC responded by scoring 27 in the fourth, with Torres scoring 11 of those points and Jimenez adding eight while holding SDC to just 14 to take the victory.
SDC led in nearly every major category but had double the turnovers SBCC did (28-14) resulting in the loss.
SBCC will host Antelope Valley on Saturday, Nov. 16 at 3 p.m.
