Gyse Hulsebosch had 17 points and Abram Carrasco contributed 16 to lead the Westmont men’s basketball team to an 85-63 rout of Calgary (Canada) in the opening round of the 44th annual Tom Byron Classic on Monday night at Murchison Gym.
The victory improved the Warriors to 13-0 this season.
Westmont, for just the third time this season, trailed at halftime before crushing Calgary (8-1) 52-28 in the second half.
Hunter Sipe added 13 points and Cade Roth chipped in with 11 for the Warriors, who play Park of Arizona in the second and final round of the Tom Byron Classic today at 1 p.m.
Hulsebosch finished 6 of 9 from the field, including 5-for-7 from 3-point range.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
WESTMONT 109, OLIVET NAZARENE 80
Behind 23 points from Stefanie Berberabe and 21 from Iyree Jarrett, the Warriors tied a program record for points in a game, while improving to 9-2 on the season.
Westmont shot a blistering 59 percent (41 of 69) from the field, and 17 of 32 (53 percent from 3-point range.
Lauren Tsuneishi and Maud Ranger both finished with 17 points and were both 5-for-8 from 3-point range.
BOYS BASKETBALL
BURROUGHS 62, DOS PUEBLOS 45
Aaron Celestine made seven 3-pointers and finished with 23 points to lead Burroughs to a 17-point win over DP at the Kiwanis Tournament in Ventura.
Baylor Huyck led Dos Pueblos (4-9) with 21 points.
