Betsy Woods passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, April 21, 2013,
Born in Orinda, California to Robert and Phyliss Woods, Betsy was a graduate of UC Berkeley. She moved to Santa Barbara in 1978 to begin her illustrious career as a horse trainer. In 1980 she married her true love, John Locke, and in 1988 their son Christopher ” Woody” Locke was born.
The owner of Ridgewood Farm since 1978, Betsy taught hundreds of people of all ages to ride and compete with enormous success in the show ring. Stressing strong basics in a safe environment, she developed her riders to have an elegant look and effective style. She also sat on the boards of many horse organizations, including the Santa Barbara County Riding Club. Her many impressive professional credits can be found here:

Multi-talented, she was an accomplished ballet dancer, she also loved playing her guitar, tending the gorgeous roses in her garden, hiking , walking on the beach, and listening to Woody’s band.
With her beautiful blue eyes, Betsy was a shining light and inspiration to all . Her grace and generosity were legendary. Betsy will be hugely missed but remembered forever.
Betsy was predeceased by her father, Robert Woods, and her husband, John Locke. She is survived by her son Woody, her mother Phyllis Woods, her brother Bob Woods and his wife Sharon. Also by her sister-in-law Linda Locke Weinman and her husband Michael,
A memorial will be held in her honor June 2nd from 2PM to 6PM at Rancho Asoleado, 250 Nogal Rd. in Hope Ranch. There will be food.
