John Christopher Locke passed away on Sunday April 14th, 2013.
He was born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio. He lived there with his mother and three siblings until the late 1960’s when he moved, first to Hollywood, California and then to Santa Barbara.
In December of 1980 he married his best friend Betsy Woods. In 1988 their son Christopher “Woody” Locke was born. John was very proud of his son ,especially the fact that he is a musician.
John loved music, especially old folk musicians like Woody Guthrie. He also loved playing basketball and riding his bike.
John was an excellent businessman and had a long history in the restaurant industry. He worked in, managed or owned several restaurants including the Sambo’s Restaurant on upper State Street, Balterie’s in Goleta, The Biltmore in Montecito and The Timbers in Winchester Canyon. For the last 12 years he has been the manager of Cold Spring Tavern.
His parents predeceased him as did his brother Ricky and his sister Christy. He is survived by his wife Betsy Woods and their son Woody his sister Linda Locke Weiman and her husband Michael as well as his oldest sister Sue Brookbank. He is also survived by his mother-in-law Phyllis Woods his brother-in-law Robert Woods and Bob’s wife Sharon.
A memorial was held 2 weeks after John’s passing at the Cold Spring Tavern. There will also be a short word about him at his wife’s service on June 2nd 2-4PM at Rancho Asoleado 250 Nogal Rd. in Hope Ranch.
He was a brother, husband, father and friend. Gentle and honest he was loved by many. He will be dearly missed.
