Lompoc City Council voted unanimously Thursday night to place the option of a 1-percent general sales tax increase on the March 2020 primary election ballot. The current sales tax rate stands at 7.75 percent. If more than half of voters approve of the increase, this rate will increase to 8.75 percent. It’s predicted that the one-percent sales tax will generate almost $5 million annually. Lompoc City Council agreed that the tax would end after 15 years.
