Elizabeth Vogt Love was born September 30, 1938, in St. Louis, MO, the eldest daughter of Dr. William H. Vogt and Elizabeth Woolley Vogt. She was educated at Villa Duchesne, Academy of The Sacred Heart and received her BA degree from Maryville College in St. Louis. In 1960 she spent several months travelling in Europe before her marriage to Dr. Jack Love, a cardiovascular surgeon training at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis. From 1961 until 1968 there were six children born to the couple who, after living in Washington, DC, El Paso, TX and Baltimore, MD, settled in Santa Barbara in 1970 where Dr. Love began his practice.
Elizabeth always took great interest in her children’s education and served on the Parent Boards at Vieja Valley School, Bishop Diego High School and Santa Barbara High School. Additionally, she donated time and effort to the Pregnancy Counseling Center and Villa Majella Maternity Home, where she served on the Board of Directors for many years. She had a special devotion to helping the Poor Clare Nuns in their needs. Elizabeth was a very devoted mother and grandmother, “Mimi”, who quietly, but resolutely, taught her family the importance of faith, courage, hope and love. She and Jack were longtime parishioners of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church.
Elizabeth was predeceased by her husband, Jack, of 52 years. She is survived by her six children: Charles (Barbara), Fr. John, Elizabeth (Jim) Yoder, Richard (Alyson), George (Kathryn) and Sarah (Gerran) Brown. She had seventeen grandchildren: Rebecca, Sarah, Rachel, Paul, Hannah, Clare, Jack, Emma, Betsy, Elizabeth, Jimmy, Andrew, Joe, Amelia, Caroline, Meg and Helen. She is also survived by her sister, Judith (Hank) Shaw of Columbia, SC, and her brothers William H. (Diane) Vogt of Stockbridge, MA, and George K. (Betsy) Vogt of St. Louis, MO, along with many beloved nieces and nephews.
A vigil and Rosary will be held on Monday evening, April 1st at 7:00pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 2nd at 12noon. Both services will be celebrated at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, 1300 East Valley Road, Montecito, CA 93108. Roman Catholic priests wishing to concelebrate please bring an alb and white stole. Private burial will follow immediately at Calvary Cemetery in Santa Barbara.
