A man was arrested Thursday night in De la Guerra Plaza and is accused of two counts of battery, including one against a city ambassador, police said.
Just before 10 p.m., police were dispatched to the 700 block of State Street on a report of a fight. Two suspects, one identified only as Brandon and his father, got into an altercation with a homeless person. Two city ambassadors were in the area and saw the suspect and his father, whose name was withheld, and called officers to the scene, said Sgt. Eric Beecher, spokesman for the Santa Barbara Police Department.
The ambassadors attempted to intervene in the fight and one was punched in the head, Sgt. Beecher said.
The ambassadors followed the suspects until police arrived on scene. Both men entered the plaza and an officer used pepper spray on Brandon as they attempted to detain him.
The suspect identified as Brandon was arrested on two charges of battery. He also had several warrants out for his arrest, Sgt. Beecher said.
The suspect’s father was arrested on suspicion of delaying a peace officer.
