CARPINTERIA A Buellton man was arrested last week and is facing multiple felony drug charges following a traffic stop on Highway 101 at Casitas Pass Road, authorities said.
Around 12:03 a.m. Feb. 11, Sheriff’s deputies conducted the traffic stop, searched the vehicle and found approximately one pound of methamphetamine concealed in the dashboard with a replica firearm. They also found prescription medication that did not belong to the driver, 53-year-old John Scott Bavaro, according to Raquel Zick, spokeswoman for the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department.
A few hours later, a search warrant was served at Mr. Bavaro’s residence in the 400 block of Avenue of the Flags in Buellton. Detectives located evidence of drug sales, an additional seven grams of methamphetamine and four grams of psilocybin mushrooms, also known as magic mushrooms, Ms. Zick said.
Mr. Bavaro was booked into Santa Barbara County Jail on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance for sales, carrying a concealed dirk or dagger, transportation of a controlled substance for sales, commission of a felony after release on bail and transportation of methamphetamine for sales – all felonies. In addition, Mr. Bavaro was charged with being in possession of a controlled substance without a prescription, a misdemeanor.
