SANTA MARIA A 73-year-old man suffered major injuries in a two-vehicle collision Thursday afternoon on State Route 166 just west of Black Road in Santa Maria, authorities said.
At approximately 12:20 p.m. Thursday, Michael Fort, of Morro Bay, was traveling west on the 166 when, for unknown reasons, he turned his vehicle to the left and was facing south in the westbound lane. A vehicle driven by Guillermo Rodriguez, 65, of Santa Maria, collided into the left driver’s side of Mr. Fort’s vehicle, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Mr. Fort’s vehicle sustained major damage in the collision and he suffered major injuries, the CHP said.
Mr. Fort was airlifted to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital and was listed in critical condition. Mr. Rodriguez was not injured.
The investigation into the cause of the crash is continuing.
