The Santa Barbara Police Department is investigating a homicide that occurred early Saturday on the city’s Eastside.
At approximately 1:15 a.m. Saturday, police received a 9-1-1 call reporting that a man had just been assaulted in the 1300 block of Cacique Street.
Officers responded to the scene and located an unconscious adult male. He was described as a 29-year-old Latino man who had suffered multiple stab wounds from a sharp object. Officers rendered emergency aid to the victim prior to the arrival of the Santa Barbara City Fire Department and paramedics with American Medical Response, said police spokesman Anthony Wagner.
The victim, whose name was withheld, later died at the hospital, Mr. Wagner said.
Portions of Cacique Street were blocked off for a time Saturday morning for the investigation. Police secured the crime scene to preserve evidence to be processed by crime scene investigators and detectives.
No arrests were made as of Saturday night.
“The Santa Barbara Police Department is not commenting on motive or number of individuals involved,” Mr. Wagner told the News-Press, adding that he was unable to provide information on whether the incident was gang-related.
