
The second born of eight children, Sadie Ernestine Mantooth, born on a farm near Johnson, Nebraska, passed away 2:30 AM April 2nd at Cottage Hospital, in Santa Barbara, CA. Sadie, born December 27, 1922 was 90 years old at the time of her passing.
Those left to mourn her death are her children, Randy Mantooth, of Los Angeles, CA, Nancy Mantooth DeHoyos, of Bay Town, Texas, Don Mantooth of Simi Valley, CA, Tonya Mantooth of Rancho Santa Fe, CA, and their spouses. 7 Grand children, Debbie Hill, Nikki Cosgrove, Jonathan De Hoyos, Robert Winters, Jenna Murphy, Stephanie Inscoe, Alex Inscoe, along with 4 Great Grandchildren, Lauren Wurth, Eric Wurth, Danielle Cosgrove, Emma Hill also grief the passing of their Grandma.
In 1962, Sadie fell in love with Santa Barbara, calling it home for the past 50 years. This fiercely independent single mom bought a home and successfully raised 4 children on a waitress’ salary. After working in the restaurant business for over 40 years (a quarter century of which was spent at the Tree House Restaurant on upper State St.) Sadie Mantooth retired at the age of 77 in 1999. With a wonderful sense of style, Sadie was proud of her home, and took great joy in the accomplishments of her children. This strong-willed, determined woman’s passing has left a deep sense of emptiness in the our hearts.
Memorial services will be held Thursday, April 11, 2013 at the Santa Barbara Cemetery Chapel at 11:00AM with the graveside committal service immediately thereafter.
