Conservative commentator calls for immigration moratorium
Conservative commentator and author Michelle Malkin spoke Friday at the Reagan Ranch Center and called for a moratorium on immigration in America, saying the issue is a national security concern.
Mrs. Malkin’s talk was a part of the Wendy McCaw Roundtable Luncheon series put on by the Young America’s Foundation. Mrs. Malkin, who has contributed to Fox News and CRTV, was also there to promote her latest book, “Open Borders Inc.: Who’s Funding America’s Destruction?”
In “Open Borders Inc.,” her seventh book, Mrs. Malkin blames a system of activists, judges, politicians, and global elite for the current immigration crisis, which she says is done in the name of compassion but driven by financial profit. She warned that the good intentions of Americans are being exploited.
“You can’t have limitless compassion and a sovereign country at the same time. These things are incompatible,” said Mrs. Malkin.
At the event, Mrs. Malkin framed the issue of illegal immigration as an issue of defense.
“Immigration must be treated first and foremost as a national security issue. It is not the single issue. Immigration is every issue,” said Mrs. Malkin.
After the 9/11 attacks, America should have learned that it only takes a small number of bad actors hidden within millions of others for attacks like these to be staged, said Mrs. Malkin.
She described the way the 9/11 hijackers exploited the visa system and called on the government to regain complete control of its immigration process.
Mrs. Malkin also critizied sanctuary cities and counties, saying they were making the issue of illegal immigration not just a southern border problem, but something that impacts everyone from Montgomery County, Maryland to Colorado.
The influx of migrants at the southern border and proliferation of sanctuary jurisdictions is due in part to judges who have failed to uphold immigration law, universities who have taught ideologies that promote open borders, and media and activists who have demonized ICE and the Border Patrol, leading to violence, Mrs. Malkin said.
“At some point we are surrendering our status as a sovereign country, and operating effectively as a sanctuary country. A sanctuary country for people who have abused our asylum system, people who are benefitting because we still don’t have the will to fully enforce employer sanctions, let alone the simple sections of our US law that make it a crime to aid and abet, shelter and harbor people here breaking our laws,” said Mrs. Malkin.
Mrs. Malkin identified issues with almost every part of the U.S. immigration system, and concluded her talk by calling for a temporary shut down of the whole system.
“I think it’s high time that we impose a moratorium until we get control over every aspect of who’s coming into the country,” Mrs. Malkin said.
