
SANTA YNEZ More than $21,000 was raised in support of the Santa Ynez Valley Cottage Hospital on Dec 7 at the hospital’s annual Holiday Gala, the hospital announced Friday in a press release.
More than 250 guests attended the event at the Santa Ynez Valley Marriott Hotel in Buellton to support Cottage’s Tele-Stroke Program, which is “providing critical care sooner, thus saving lives and ensuring the best possible outcomes,” according to former president of the SYVCH Foundation Gerry Shepherd
“Using state-of-the-art telemedicine technology in the emergency department, stroke patients can now get faster and improved care.
“Tele-Stroke medicine immediately connects patients and emergency department physicians with board-certified neurologists through two-way audio-visual technology,” said Mr. Shepherd.
The hospital is also celebrating its 55th anniversary.
“The hospital opened its doors on November 9, 1964 with funding coming from a grass roots community effort spearheaded by a concerned group of 68 women, who ultimately formed the Hospital Auxiliary Charter Members 57 years ago in 1962,” said C.J. Jackson, SYVCH Foundation President. “They, along with 1,225, donors contributed a total of $352,391 to make the Solvang hospital a reality. Congratulations to our hospital on its many successes over these 55 years!”
