Norbert (Norby) Rudolf Mosel passed away at his home on June 6th, 2013. Norby fought a courageous four year battle with ALS. He was 55-years-old.
Norby was born in Germany and raised in Goleta, CA. There he learned his plumbing trade working in the family business. After marrying his wife Nancy, they moved to Nevada County in 1990 where they started a family and had a successful contracting business, NM Plumbing.
An avid outdoorsman, Norby’s love of the mountains took him to exotic places; Nepal, New Zealand, Thailand, and Africa. As a young man, traveling alone with his dog Cheyenne, he also hiked the Continental Divide and Pacific Crest Trail. Norby was an explorer of all of California, especially the oceans, lakes, and rivers.
He loved volunteering at his children’s schools. Most recently, he enjoyed the last four years volunteer coaching with the Nevada Union Wrestling Program.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy (Fischer); daughter, Shelby Lillian; son, Sawyer Rudolf; his parents, Rudi and Roselmarie Mosel; sister, Heidi (Doug); brother, Gary (Marco); mother-in-law, Margaret Fischer; brothers-in-law (Gary and Scott Fischer); and his many nieces and nephews.
We would like to thank the medical staff at UC Davis, the numerous organizations involved with ALS, and Hospice of the Foothills for the wonderful care during his illness.
Norby’s loving attitude towards his family, his fun nature to his friends, and his impact on the community will not be forgotten and we will miss him very much.
Donations can be made in his honor to ALS Sacramento Chapter, Hospice of the Foothills, and/or Nevada Union Wrestling Program.
