
Passed away peacefully on May 16, 2013. She lived an extraordinary adventurous 94 years. Born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on December 4, 1918, she belonged to the “Greatest Generation” serving as a WAVE in the US Navy during World War 11. As a young girl, Janet was a Girl Scout and became a Golden Eaglet (equivalent to an Eagle Scout) the highest award bestowed upon a Girl Scout. As an adult, Janet was a Girl Scout leader for many years.
She had variety of careers ranging from working in Washington DC for the US State Department to delivering mail in a jeep on a military base in Alaska. Janet traveled extensively throughout all 50 states as well as Canada, Mexico and Japan. She raised her three children in Burbank, California and moved to Santa Barbara four years ago. Janet loved the ocean, swimming, large dogs, sunshine and her family. Janet will be greatly missed by her three children – Patti Haley of Burbank, Jeff Mounce of San Francisco, Robin Torrellas of Goleta and their spouses, as well as her four grandchildren. Janet lived her motto daily “Learn something new every day”.
