Died peacefully on Jan. 6, 2013. Her life quietly ended at the place of her first job in Santa Barbara, Cottage Hospital. She is greatly missed by all who loved her.
Eleanore was born on May 16, 1925 in the Los Angeles area to Edwin and Bertha Hallifax. She attended schools in Southern California, graduating from Loma Linda University with an R.N. degree. Eleanore met the love of her life, Jim Moyer, in 1946. They married in 1948 and moved to Santa Barbara in 1950. Jim and Eleanore raised four children, building a house and a Christian home for them. Being a devoted Mom was just one of the many amazing things that Eleanore accomplished over the years. Eleanore was a Leader, Organizer, Trainer, and Council President of the Tres Condados Girl Scout Council.
She was a creative artist and a moving force in the Goleta Valley Art Association. Eleanore received the first Directors Award in 2003. She and Jim enjoyed a successful camera business adventure once they became empty nesters. Together they enjoyed travel to Africa, Japan, Europe, Alaska, Australia, and Tahiti. When Jim became ill with Parkinson’s and could no longer travel, Eleanore was his loving care-taker.
Eleanore loved the Lord and was a devoted servant. She was an active member of Santa Barbara Community Church (formerly Trinity Baptist), working for over twenty years in the church office. She was also a Flower Arranger and overall great support to the church that she loved. Her gift of service continued to be used when she moved to Vista Del Monte Retirement Community in 2006. Eleanore arranged flowers in the Dining Room, worked at the General Store, called BINGO, and sang with the Vista Voices. Her many talents made her life beautiful, just like the collages that she created.
Eleanore is survived by her daughters Nancy Trolson and husband Brad of Minden, Nevada, Carol Friedrichs and husband Keith of Rescue, California, Kathy LeSage and husband Don of Santa Barbara, California, and Scott and wife Catalina of Lakeland, Florida. Eleanore had five grandchildren, Jenna Trolson, Russ Friedrichs, Leia Lumsden, Olivia LeSage, and Samantha Moyer, with one more on the way. Eleanore had two great- granddaughters. She is also survived by her sister, Shirley Turcotte of Seattle, Washington.
A Memorial Service to honor Eleanore’s life will be held at Santa Barbara Community Church on Feb. 18th at 1:00. In lieu of flowers, friends and family are asked to donate to Santa Barbara Community Church or a charitable organization of their choice.
