Of Santa Barbara, CA, son of the late Helen T. (Wynne) and John Mulkern, brother of Kevin Mulkern of Weymouth, and Kathleen P.(Mulkern) Belongie of Holbrook, passed away in his home at the age of 64 on April 2, 2013 after a 4-month battle with cancer. He is survived by his loving wife, Carol Ann (Webber) Mulkern of Santa Barbara, and two sons, Geoffrey Keith Mulkern of Goleta, and Michael Stephen Mulkern, daughter in-law Amanda Jean (Harrington) Mulkern and 3 beautiful grandchildren, Sean Michael, Erin Jean and Aidan Patrick Mulkern of West Covina, all of whom love and adored him. Born in Quincy, MA on January 25, 1949, Steve graduated from Weymouth High School in 1967.
A Vietnam Veteran, Steve served his country from 1968-1972 in the US Air Force. In 1988, Steve moved his family to California, where he earned a degree in cosmetology and realized his life-long dream to become a hair designer. He thoroughly enjoyed his co-workers and built a loyal clientele. With beautiful, blue, smiling, Irish eyes, Steve spent his entire life bringing laughter and joy to all those lucky enough to call him “friend.” Whether friends from childhood or friends just made, all love and care and support him, even in death.
Memorial will be held on April 27th from 1-4pm at the Rancho Santa Barbara Clubhouse, 333 Old Mill Rd., Santa Barbara, 93110. In lieu of flowers please send donations to Santa Barbara Visiting Nurses and Hospice Care; their support made it possible to grant Steve’s wish to die at home.
Arrangements entrusted to Welch-Ryce-Haider Funeral Chapels.
