Of Santa Barbara, died at Buena Vista Care Center on February 11, 2013 at the age of 100. Maria was born in Hacienda Buena Vista de Capetillo, Estado de Jalisco, Mexico on April 18, 1912.
Maria came to Santa Barbara from Mexico in 1946. She was a life-long resident of this beautiful community. Maria was a businesswoman for many years and was the owner of Guadalajara Mexican Imports. She studied the English language through Adult Education. Maria was an original member of La Union Civica Mexicana along with community icons such as Dr. Michael Lemus, City Councilman Richard Hilalgo and Professor Antonio Molina. One of Maria’s passions was traveling throughout the world to places such as Europe, the Far East, Japan, China, Spain, Italy, France and Germany.
Maria was very pleased with the friendship…la amistad, that she developed with close friends over the years. Maria enjoyed music and crafts and socializing and hosting her “pozole” gatherings.
The Rosary Service will be held on Monday, February 25, 2013, 7:30 pm, and the Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 26, 10:00 am, both at Our Lady of Sorrows.
The family would like to thank the staff at Buena Vista Care Center and the staff of Visiting Nurses and Hospice Care. In particular, we want to thank Al, Maria’s “Guardian Angel” who watched over her and served as her voice numerous times.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Maria’s name to Visiting Nurse and Hospice Care, 222 E. Canon Perdido Street, Santa Barbara, CA 93101
Maria…..Que descanses en Paz!
