Another suspect has been arrested in connection with a June 1 homicide in Santa Barbara.
Alejandro De La Torre, 23, was charged Monday as an accessory to murder with a gang enhancement. He is also accused of committing a serious felony while on felony probation, according to a statement released by a Santa Barbara County District Attorney’s Office spokeswoman, .
Mr. De La Torre appeared for arraignment Monday before Judge Clifford Anderson in the Santa Barbara County Superior Court Figueroa Street division.
Angel Barajas, 31, Igor Ortiz, 20, Adelain Ibarra, 20, Alondra Ochoa, 18, and a female juvenile, whose name is being withheld, have already been taken into custody in the case, said Anthony Wagner, spokesman for the Santa Barbara Police Department.
At 1:15 a.m. June 1, police were called to a report of an assault in the 1300 block of Cacique Street. Officers located an unconscious man, later identified as Alberto Suarez Torres, 29, of Santa Barbara. Mr. Torres had suffered multiple stab wounds. He was transported to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital where he later died.
Mr. Barajas, Mr. Ortiz, and Mr. Ibarra are charged with murder and Ms. Ochoa is charged as an accessory.
They pleaded not guilty during an arraignment July 8. A preliminary hearing setting conference before Judge James Herman is scheduled for Aug. 14. The juvenile charged in this case will remain in juvenile court.
