With his eyes on exciting expansion at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital, Dr. Eric Grossman will be trading the harsh winters of Chicago and the Carolinas for the moderate climate of Santa Barbara in the near future.
Dr. Grossman was named the new Pediatric Trauma Director at the hospital on Monday.
Ultimately, his passion for caring for children because unlike other areas of medicine, many of his patients make full recoveries.
“I really enjoy taking care of kids and helping them and their families through the recovery process,” Dr. Grossman told the News-Press.
He will also join the Pediatric Surgery Clinic at Cottage Children’s Medical Center, located at 5333 Hollister Ave. in Goleta.
Dr. Grossman is certified in pediatric surgery by the American Board of Surgery, and specializes in minimally invasive surgery, neonatal surgery, surgical oncology, trauma and general pediatric surgery.
He earned his medical degree from The University of Chicago in 2005, followed by his residency at The University of Chicago Medical Center from 2005 through 2012.
He completed his fellowship at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago. Before coming to Santa Barbara, Dr. Grossman served as a pediatric surgeon at Carolinas Healthcare System.
“I decided to come to Santa Barbara because it’s an exciting new chapter for the hospital, especially with the expansion of pediatric services at Cottage Children’s Medical Center,” Dr. Grossman said in a statement on his appointment.
While his transition into his new position is still ongoing, Dr. Grossman said he has already begun program and protocol development for his department.
“I have three kids. As a doctor I always try to think about how I would want my kids to be cared for,” said Dr. Grossman.
Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital is designated as a Level II pediatric trauma Center by Santa Barbara County Emergency Medical Services.
In November 2018 the hospital added two new pavilions for patient care.
The third floor of the new pavilions contains the expanded Cottage Children’s Medical Center including the Pediatric Intensive Care, Haselton Family Neonatal Intensive Care and Acute Pediatrics.
