National Search Dog Foundation trip
The MClub, sponsored by Montecito Bank & Trust, is planning a day tour Oct. 22 to the National Search Dog Foundation in Santa Paula, where founder Wilma Melville and executive director George Haynes and team will escort the group through SDF’s National Training Center Campus on Wheeler Canyon Road.
Attendees will observe the dogs being trained to rescue live humans and navigate their way through a variety of staged disaster sites that include a train wreck, airplane wreck, earthquake house, collapsed freeway, two rubble piles and more, all designed to train the dogs in as close-to-real-life situations as possible.
The tour bus will leave at 8:30 a.m. from the Montecito Bank & Trust Branch, 3802 State St. in Santa Barbara (Park at the very back of the lot behind the branch and the bus will be on Via Lucero.); and at 9:15 a.m. from Carpinteria (Park at the very back of the lot behind Edward Jones at 5320 Carpinteria Ave. — use the Casitas Pass Exit). Approximate arrival back in Santa Barbara will be 3 p.m.
