The American Red Cross is looking for volunteers to help with “Operation Ride for the Red,” which will be a 30-, 50- and 100-mile bicycle ride through Ventura County on May 18. Even though the fundraiser is several months away, much preparation needs to be done to put on a successful event for the 250 riders, according to organizers.
Monies raised will benefit the American Red Cross Service to Armed Forces program, which helps members of the military and veterans and their families as they prepare for, cope with and respond to the challenges of military service. The ride will start and finish at the American Red Cross headquarters in Camarillo. There will be seven rest stops along the routes with an awards party featuring food and entertainment at the conclusion of the ride.
Entry fees will be $75, $85 and $95. All entrants will be eligible for a free drawing to spend a week at El Dorado Ranch Golf Resort in San Felipe, Baja California.
The Celebrity Host of the Ride will be Steve Hegg, Olympic gold medal winner in cycling and holder of 13 United States National Cycling Championship titles.
