Nancy Weiss was named a Local Food Hero by the Santa Barbara Permaculture Network at the 11th annual Santa Barbara Community Seed Swap, which was held Jan. 27 at Trinity Gardens. Ms. Weiss is director of food services for the Santa Barbara Unified School District. She has been instrumental in upgrading school cafeteria lunches from prepackaged, highly processed foods to high-quality, cooked-from-scratch meals from locally sourced organic growers, according to organizers. She also directs the district’s Mobile CafÄ food truck program.
