SANTA MARIA A man, two dogs and two cats were able to flee their burning home without injury in an early morning fire Tuesday in Santa Maria, authorities said.
Santa Barbara County Fire Department crews responded to the area at about 7:36 a.m. and found a fire burning inside a bedroom of a single-family residence in the 800 block of Dahlia Court.
Fire crews contained the fire and prevented further spread, said Capt. Dave Zaniboni, fire spokesman.
The homeowner, a man whose name was withheld, was in bed and was awakened by neighbors who saw smoke. Both he and the animals were able to get out of the home before fire crews arrived, Capt. Zaniboni said.
Minor smoke damage was reported throughout the rest of the structure.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
