SANTA BARBARA The Santa Barbara Police Department will suspend enforcement of the 75- and 90-minute curb parking restrictions from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday to accommodate spectators of the Fiesta Parade.
Enforcement will be suspended in the following areas, including the perimeter streets: above the freeway, from Valerio Street on the north, Bath Street on the west and Laguna Street on the east’ and below the freeway, from Cabrillo Boulevard on the south, Castillo Street on the west and Garden Street on the east.
This does not apply to city parking structures and all other parking regulations will be enforced, police said.
Police are also advising participants of the annual Fiesta cruiser ride to expect enforcement of all bicycle-related traffic laws. Additional officers will be deployed for the event, which is expected to take place Sunday. Traditionally, the ride begins in the morning near the Waterfront and participants ride to Isla Vista and return to the Waterfront via State Street.
Some of the most common violations include: failing to ride as close as practicable to the right-hand curb ($196 fine)’ failure to obey red signal light ($490 fine)’ failure to obey stop sign ($237 fine)’ and riding a bike under the influence.
“To ensure a safe and enjoyable Fiesta, the Santa Barbara Police Department encourages all motorists, bicyclists, and pedestrians to be courteous and to follow the rules of the road,” said Anthony Wagner, police spokesman.
