A man suffered life-threatening injuries after he was struck by a van traveling east bound on Cabrillo Boulevard at approximately 5:17 p.m. Monday evening.
The man was transported to Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara, where he later died of his injuries, confirmed by Santa Barbara Police Department spokesperson Anthony Wagner.
According to initial findings by the police department, the man moved into the left traffic lane, emerging from between two vehicles. A white van made contact with the van — with the vehicle traveling at a normal rate of speed, according to Mr. Wagner.
Around 7 p.m., Santa Barbara police vehicles blocked the eastbound side of Cabrillo Boulevard in front of the Hilton to conduct their investigation.
The driver of the white van was still on the scene, conversing with police officers.
This is the first traffic fatality on Cabrillo Boulevard in 2019.
