SOLVANG Former Santa Ynez Valley High School Board President Bruce Porter launched his campaign for 3rd District County Supervisor Wednesday afternoon during a rally at Sunny Fields Park in Solvang.
“I’ve spent the great majority of my life in service to my country and neighbors,” Mr. Porter, 65, said in a statement. “I am committed to continuing that service as your County Supervisors, bringing practical solutions and public input to county decisions.”
Mr. Porter is a West Point graduate who served 25 years with the Army Corps of Engineers in a variety of roles. His service concluded in 2001 and Mr. Porter and his family settled in the Santa Ynez Valley. Since moving to the area, he has sought to improve local education programs, support veterans and raise funds for community recreational facilities and programs.In 2016, Mr. Porter (46 percent of the vote) was defeated by Joan Hartmann (53 percent) for the 3rd District seat. The election will be held March 3, 2020.
