Edith went home to be with Jesus on January 12, 2014 She was born on March 19, 1919 in Newburg, Iowa to Clarence and Ida Stark. She was number seven of eight children that have all preceded her in death. She grew up and attended school in Grinnell, Iowa, and came to Santa Barbara in 1937 to attend UCSB College. She graduated in 1941 and taught school in Oildale, California.
In 1943 Edith married Richard Potier, a radioman in the Navy during World War II, while he was home on stateside leave. They were assigned to Seattle, Washington for two years. When the war ended in 1945, they returned to Santa Barbara where they raised their family.
Edith was preceded in death by Richard, who died in 2006. Their daughter, Nancy, died in 1979. Edith is survived by Rich and Vicki of Santa Barbara, Dan and Mary of Washington, and Janet and Daryl from Santa Barbara. She had eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She was especially fond of saying, “the Lord is my Shepherd” and of quoting
Psalm 23.
