Nearly 7,000 Southern California Edison customers throughout Santa Barbara County may be included in the power company’s Public Safety Power Shutoff later this week due to weather conditions that may create the potential for elevated fire risk.
More than 33,000 Edison customers throughout the state are “under consideration” for the shutdown, including customers in Inyo, Kern, Los Angeles, Mono, Riverside, San Bernardino and Santa Barbara counties, according to Edison officials.
The local shutoff could occur Friday afternoon. A total of 6,689 customers in the county may be affected, including: the city of Santa Barbara; Gaviota; Conception; El Capitan Park; Mission Canyon; Montecito; and unincorporated areas of the county.
