
Pratima Sherpa fired a 2-over 74 to sit in a tie for third place overall, leading the SBCC women’s golf team to fourth place after the first round at the CCCAA State Championships on Sunday at Morro Bay GC.
Sherpa is just four shots off the lead, held by Haruka Koda of Canyons.
SBCC is 20 shots behind Canyons overall, with Alexa Bleth carded a season-best 76 to sit in a tie for eighth.
Bleth is trying to improve on her sixth-place finish in 2018, earning her all-state honors.
SBCC is just three shots back of Modesto for third place and six behind Reedley for second.
The Vaqueros have finished in the top 4 the past four years.
Paris White (87), Cally Casterline (89) and Marie Naud (96) rounded out the scores for SBCC.
“I was very happy with our team score,” said SBCC coach Chuck Melendez. “Pratima and Alexa played well. We need everyone to shoot a little better tomorrow and we should be able to grab another trophy.”
The final round begins at 9 a.m. today.
