Al was born January 6, 1917 in Santa Barbara, CA to Italian immigrants Luigi and Marianna Reginatto. At the age of 96, Al passed away at home on June 30, 2013, the last of six children. He lived all of his life in Santa Barbara except when he worked as a lumberjack in Chiliquin, Oregon from 1938-1940 where he met his bride-to-be, Vivian. They were married on December 21, 1940. Together they returned to Santa Barbara until he was called upon by his country to serve in the South Pacific in World War 11 in 1944 serving two years as a Navy gunner on the USS Wayne. He always said he was very proud to have served his country. After coming home the Reginatto Brothers was established with two of his brothers and for over 42 years Al worked as a finish grading contractor. His life was filled with hunting throughout the Western States, yearly fishing trips to Alaska, bowling leagues, being a member of the Elks Lodge #613 for 63 years, the DB’s, Italian/American Boot Club and often barbecuing for large picnics and the Italian Festa at Oak Park. He was also a devoted L.A. Dodger fan. He spent endless hours tending to his incredible vegetable garden as well as growing vegetables in several other locations with friends. Family, friends, neighbors and even strangers were recipients of his marvelous produce. After retirement he enjoyed traveling and cruising with his wife and daughters, taking them to many different parts of the world. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, honesty, loyalty, an iron grip handshake and a love for his family.
Al was predeceased by his sister, Lidia, and brothers Edo, Bruno, Umberto and Corado. He is survived by Vivian, his loving wife of 72 years, his daughters and their spouses, Carol and Chuck and Nadine and Jim, grandchildren Steven and Bruce and a great grandson, Christopher, nieces Gloria, Virleen and Karen and nephews Leon and Mark. For the many years of care that you provided for Al, thank you Dr. David Gillon.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 10, 2013 at San Roque Church at 10:00 A.M. followed by interment at Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family invites memorial donations to a charity of choice. It broke our hearts to lose you but you did not go alone, a part of us went with you the day God took you home.
