SANTA BARBARA The Santa Barbara Metropolitan Transit District announced that all fixed-route buses will be fare free starting today until further notice.
Santa Barbara MTD announced the offer Wednesday on Twitter, while also announcing a number of service changes that will go into effect March 19 and remain in place until further notice.
The following bus lines will no longer offer service: Line 15x; Line 16; Line 28; and all booster services. Line 27 will operate on an alternate schedule, according to transit officials.
In addition, the front doors and front seats of all MTD buses will be reserved for seniors and people with disabilities. All other passengers are asked to board and exit using the rear door of the bus.
Transit Center facilities will operate on normal hours. No walk-up sales or transactions will be available, however both ticket vending machines are accepting cash and cards. The public may still ask questions at the window, or by calling 805-963-3366.
