The Santa Barbara Police Department is reminding residents to protect their vehicles and mail from theft.
According to an SBPD news release, the department has investigated 78 vehicle thefts since July, 41 of which were reported since September.
Authorities suggest removing valuables and hide-a-keys from vehicles, closing windows and parking in well-lit areas.
“In the event your vehicle is stolen, please contact local law enforcement immediately and provide the year, make, model, and license plate number, as well as a timeframe for the theft of the vehicle. It is important to also contact your car insurance provider to make them aware of the theft,” read the news release.
The report also reminded residents to protect their packages as the holiday season approaches.
Police officials suggest tracking shipments online, requesting pickup at a mail facility and using a secured mailbox or package lockbox.
