SANTA BARBARA Local nonprofit Partners in Education crowned new leaders and board members, and a few of them already have ample knowledge about the organization.
Santa Barbara County Superintendent of Schools Susan Salcido, who joined the Partners’ board in 2017, will take over as the board president. Dr. Salcido’s own educational background includes an undergraduate degree in English and a master’s degree in education from UCSB. This Gaucho also completed the USC doctoral program, focusing on organizational change, leadership and student equity. Dr. Salcido has applied what she’s learned at these schools as a teacher at Dos Pueblos High School, an assistant principal at San Marcos High School, and a principal at Santa Barbara Junior High School.
The vice president leading the board with Dr. Salcido is D.D. Ford Construction founder Doug Ford, whose participation with Partners began a decade ago. With the Dr. Salcido and Mr. Ford taking these roles, there are also fresh faces filling other positions.
Jesus Terrazas will come on the board as a new member, but he has also worked with Partners. Mr. Terrazas is an alum of the organization’s Internship Program. Along with Mr. Terrazas, Jeffrey Milem will also be joining the board. Dr. Milem is a dean and professor at UCSB’s Gevirtz School of Education.
