SANTA BARBARA The Santa Barbara Symphony has elected a new board of directors president to succeed outgoing president Don Gilman. On July 1 Montecito Bank & Trust chairman and CEO Janet Garufis will assume the role, in which she will guide the Santa Barbara Symphony in its efforts to “work to stay relevant, reach broader audiences and create a truly sustainable organization for generations to come,” according to a press release.
Her predecessor Mr. Gilman said the symphony is “very fortunate” to have Ms. Garufis as its next board president and commended her demonstrated leadership at Montecito Bank & Trust and many local nonprofits, which include the United Way of Santa Barbara and Sansum Clinic.
“She is an excellent choice to lead the Symphony Board as we usher in a new era of artistic excellence, and drive our vision to provide the community with world-class performances and programs,” Mr. Gilman said.
