Behind Pratima Sherpa’s 77, the SBCC women’s golf team secured the final berth in the CCCAA State Championships by just four shots over Mt. SAC.
Playing in the Southern Cal Regional at Via Verde CC in San Dimas, Sherpa shaved 10 strokes off her first-round total, while Marie Naud knocked 15 off hers to help the Vaqueros rally and keep their season from ending.
Sherpa was sixth overall for the tournament, while Alex Bleth was 21st, Paris White was 23rd and Cally Casterline was 25th.
Naud posted a final-round 91, which was key to the rally.
“Paris was the last one in and we were tied with Mt. SAC for the last state spot,” said coach Chuck Melendez. “She ended up shooting four better than Cally and that’s what we won by. We got in by the skin of our teeth.”
This is SBCC’s fifth consecutive trip fo the state championships, finishing no worse than fourth over the past three seasons.
The eight-team final featuring Canyons, Saddleback, Desert, Reedley, Modesto, Sierra and San Joaquin Delta will take place at Morro Bay GC on Sunday and Monday.
