
Seven local schools around Santa Barbara County will be hosting the first round of the CIF-SS girls’ volleyball playoffs for their respective divisions as the brackets were announced at noon on Saturday.
All first-round matchups will be played at 6 p.m. on Thursday.
In Division 3, Dos Pueblos High earned the hosting duties after winning a coin flip against San Marcos which decided who would earn the Channel League’s No. 1 playoff designation. Both teams finished with a 9-1 league mark.
The Chargers (21-14) will play host to Arcadia (21-11), the No. 3 team from the Pacific League. Meanwhile, San Marcos (19-6) will travel to face Quartz Hill, (23-10) the Golden League champion.
Santa Barbara (7-13), which finished third in the Channel League, will be playing at fourth-seeded Cerritos (24-5) in the Division 4 bracket.
Cate (17-3) earned a second seed in the Division 6 bracket after a successful season which included an unbeaten record in the Tri-Valley League. The Rams will host the winner of a wild-card playoff match between St. Monica and Duarte on Tuesday.
Joining Cate in Division 6 is Laguna Blanca, the Frontier League champions. The Owls (18-4) will host La Mirada (7-9) in the first round.
“It’s exciting for our girls to have a home game, it is going to be a fun day,” Laguna Blanca coach Jason Donnelly said.
“We have just been trying to get better every day and this time this year nothing is guaranteed past the first round so we just want to enjoy our time and our goal is to get better each and every day.”
Finally, in Divison 8, both Bishop Diego and Carpinteria earned home matches after finishing in second place in their respective leagues. The Cardinals (10-12) will host Pacifica Christian of Santa Monica (10-9) while the Warriors (10-15) will host Thacher (8-6).
Also in Division 8, Dunn will host La Puente while Midland is home against the wild-card winner between Canyon Springs and Geffen Academy. The two teams finished one and two in the Condor League, respectively.
Winners advance to the second round of the CIF-SS playoffs which will be played at 6 p.m. on Saturday.
