John Patrick Shields Sr. was a quiet man, brilliant with all things mechanical, he abhorred the digital age until HDTV.
He lived for his home in Summerland and his children and grandchildren whom he adored utterly.
Born in Santa Barbara on March 19, 1946, Pat lived his entire life in Montecito and Summerland. He fell in love with motorcycles young. Riding and working on bikes was one of his greatest joys. Pat had an innate gift for repairing anything with moving parts but his specialty was repairing and restoring film cameras.
He married Judith Lynn (Jacobson) Shields (deceased 1999) in 1968 and they had two children; Sarah Noel (Shields) Hinton and John Patrick Shields Jr. During the last year of his life, his children and grandchildren: Maia, Julia, Aviva and Jackson lived together on the family compound and Pat thoroughly enjoyed having his family back home.
On December 22, 2018, with John and Sarah at his side, Pat peacefully left this world to walk the mustard covered hills of old Summerland with his beloved dog, Slufoot. His children and grandchildren remain living in the house Pat loved, on the property he nurtured for his entire adult life.
A celebration will be held at the family home on February 2, 3pm, friends are welcome.
