
Was born in Independence, MO on April 20, 1949. He was raised by his parents Harriet Hager Smith and A.G. Criswell Smith, Jr. in Pittsfield, NH with his two sisters Nancy (died 2011) and Natalie Cristine (died 2001). He attended Park Street Baptist Church and graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1967. Kirby resided in Santa Barbara, CA for his entire adult life. His vocation was interior and exterior painting, and he thrived in nature as an avid outdoors-man. He loved to go hiking, camping and hunting in the mountains of California with his great longtime friends.
He often traveled to New England for family gatherings and was a devoted son, brother and uncle. Kirby’s life ended due to cancer at the age of 63, and he died peacefully at Serenity House in Santa Barbara with his niece and nephew by his side. His mother, Harriet Smith of Concord, NH survives him as well as his niece, Deidre Tao of MA, and his nephew, Liam Sullivan of CA. A private family memorial service will be held in NH.
