One of Santa Barbara’s more enterprising and productive classical music programs, Santa Barbara Strings reaches out to fledgling musicians, age 5-19, from Santa Barbara and Ventura counties. Young musicians gain valuable experience and mentorship, culled into orchestral and chamber music settings as they learn. On Saturday at the Music Academy of the West’s prized Hahn Hall, the concert “Artistry of Strings” doubles as a chamber music performance by professional players/teachers in the program, and as a fund-raiser for the program. The program’s founder, violinist Mary Beth Woodruff, leads a group including violinist Jane Chung, violist Basil Vendryes and cellist Andrew Smith, in a program of Beethoven, Mendelssohn and Shostakovich. Saturday at 7 p.m., Hahn Hall, Music Academy of the West, 1070 Fairway Rd. Tickets are $40, general, and $10 for students. Information: www.santabarbarastrings.org, (805) 245-0695.
