
Eleanor Regina Sutherland, 92, passed away peacefully on July 7, 2013 in Santa Barbara, CA. A private service & burial was held Wednesday, July 10 at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Santa Barbara.
Mrs. Sutherland was born February 11, 1921, in Jamaica, Iowa, to Edward & Anne McCoy. She graduated from St. Joseph’s Academy for Girls and attended Dowling College. During World War II, Eleanor traveled to Los Angeles while working for the Bell Telephone Company. She married Wayne Darrell Sutherland on October 31, 1944. Wayne sailed 11 trips with the Merchant Marines before arriving in California to marry Eleanor. They settled in Los Angeles.
Eleanor and Wayne moved to Santa Barbara in 1975. They were members of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. Eleanor was an interior designer and always enjoyed creating comfortable and elegant spaces for her clients. She was predeceased by her daughter, Kathleen Sutherland and her husband Wayne Sutherland. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Danny and Felicia Sutherland of Carpinteria and grandsons Eric and Andrew Sutherland.
Eleanor’s generosity and friendship were an inspiration to everyone whose lives she touched. She will be missed.
