
USAF Stanley Runyan, age 85, born December 19, 1927, in Marietta, GA.
Died suddenly July 14, 2013 at his home near Lompoc, CA. Son of Mae Runyan Swanson and James H. Swanson, Stan married Margaret R. Phelps of Spokane, WA in 1954. He was an Eagle Scout, avid hunter, fisherman, small arms expert marksman and conservationist. He joined the US Navy in 1945; graduated US Naval Academy 1952; USAF 1952 to 1980; fighter pilot, EB-66 pilot, and Assistant Air Attaché to France. Stan served his country with honor in Newfoundland, Labrador, Thailand and France. Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal w/11 devices, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal and Chevalier de l’Ordre National Du Mérite de la République Française. Survived by widow, his children–Victoria C., Stanley R., Jr., Margaret E. (Peggy) and Catherine M. Swanson, six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, his brother, James H. Swanson, Jr., and sister, Kay Swanson Cook. Member KA Fraternity. Anglican. No services. Inurnment at the United States Naval Academy Columbarium.
