April 5, 1919- March 13, 2013
Jake was born in Willimantic, Connecticut, one of 8 siblings. In 1939 he headed west to California to pursue a career in aircraft maintenance. He met his wife of 65 years, Phyllis, in Oxnard, CA, and they were married before Jake went off to Europe and North Africa as a pilot in the Army Air Corps during WW II. In the late 40’s they settled in North Hollywood, CA and raised two daughters and a son.
In 1971 Jake and Phyllis moved to Fresno, CA where he started his tenure as an FAA inspector, and continued as a career officer in the USAF Reserves. He retired in 1984 and enjoyed life in Fresno until 2003 when he and Phyllis moved to Santa Barbara. Jake lost the love of his life, Phyllis, in 2008 and stayed in their Maravilla apartment until May, 2012, when he developed severe back problems and could no longer live independently. He moved to Heritage House where he enjoyed the warm surroundings, friendly residents, caring staff and management, and the “4:05” Friday Happy Hours.
Jake is survived and will be dearly missed by daughters Jean Anderson (husband Bob) in Palmer Lake, CO, and Joan Burnett (husband Brooke) in Eugene, OR, son Jim Tamborello (wife Joyce) in Santa BArbara, six grandchildren, Tiffany and Alison Anderson, Scott and Gregory Burnett, and Jimmy and Brian Tamborello, and Santa Barbara nephew Berney Tamborello.
Memorial donations can be sent to Visiting Nurse and Hospice Care of Santa Barbara.
