In Teen Star Showcase’s 11th season, organizers are on the lookout for show dazzlers, and 10 talented teens will be selected as Teen Star finalists this weekend at Deckers Brands.
“This is incredibly exciting for us!” said Joe Lambert, Teen Star executive producer. “The success of Teen Star owes a lot of credit to Deckers. Deckers support has been instrumental in the success of our show. We thought it was fitting to hold our auditions where our longest supporters helped put us on the map.”
After auditions today and Sunday, the 10 finalists will be announced at 8 p.m. Sunday on Facebook.com/TeenStarsb and Instagram.com/TeenStarUSA.
The Deckers team is stoked to host the auditions.
“I for one, am excited for this year’s competition and look forward to the next ten years,” said Michelle Apodaca of Deckers. “Teen Star is really an asset to our local performing arts community. It has enriched the lives of every participant in ways that cannot be quantified and offered opportunities that would have not been realized if Teen Star did not exist.”
Teen Star was established in 2010 to support performing arts programs in local schools and to give area youth an outlet to showcase their talents. Teen Star also offers seminars, workshops and mentoring sessions for young performers.
The organization donates proceeds from the live events to support the Arts Mentorship Program, which awards scholarships to help students in financial need to continue pursuing their education in the arts.
Teen Star winners are given opportunities to be seen and heard at important civic events throughout Santa Barbara County. Teen Star has seen several of its past winners go on to perform in professional venues and for large crowds at more than 40 events, including Fiesta and SB Polo.
Previous winners of Teen Star include Jackson Gillies, who was on American Idol. Spirit of Fiesta Sophia Cordero is the Teen Dance Star 2017 winner.
The Teen Star Showcase Finale will be held early next year. Tickets will be on sale soon at the Arlington Theatre box office.
